Microsoft 365 outage continues into second day

Microsoft 365 and Outlook services remain degraded on Tuesday as the company continues mitigation efforts following a multi-day outage. Microsoft says telemetry is positive and service availability is improving.

  • Microsoft 365 and Outlook are still experiencing service degradation on Tuesday.
  • The issue was traced to a misconfiguration affecting authentication components.
  • Microsoft has entered a period of extended monitoring to ensure full resolution.

Microsoft's efforts to resolve a multi-day outage affecting Outlook and other Microsoft 365 services are entering a second day. The company reported significant progress on Monday after an issue with Exchange Online caused email delays, authentication problems, and other issues for some users.

As of Tuesday, the problems are not fully resolved. Microsoft's latest update on X said mitigation actions are continuing to progress, and telemetry indications remain positive. The company said it is now in a period of extended monitoring to ensure a full resolution.

The outage also affected other services, including SharePoint, Copilot, Teams, Purview, Defender XDR, the Microsoft 365 Admin Center, and Universal Print. Microsoft attributed the issues to a misconfiguration that prevented authentication components from deploying as expected to part of its infrastructure.

By 10 p.m. ET on Monday, mail flow was improving but search functionality remained degraded. Shortly after 3 a.m. ET on Tuesday, Microsoft said search functionality was also improving.

Why this matters: The outage has disrupted access to widely used productivity tools for many businesses and individuals, highlighting the impact of cloud service dependencies.

What this means for you: If you use Microsoft 365 or Outlook, you may still experience intermittent issues, but Microsoft reports gradual improvements.
