Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has revealed that a 'gut feeling' guided his selection decisions before their 7-0 thrashing of Atletico Madrid at the Emirates Stadium on May 6.
Speaking after the match, Arteta credited his instincts for choosing players who delivered a commanding performance, keeping their hopes of a Champions League Final spot alive.
'I had a gut feeling, and I went with it,' Arteta explained. 'I've always said that you need to trust your intuition, and it paid off tonight.'
The Gunners now face either holders Paris St Germain, who knocked them out in last season's semi-finals, or Bayern Munich in the Puskas Arena in Budapest on May 30, following their 7-0 win over Atletico Madrid.
Arteta's decision to go with a mix of youth and experience seemed to pay off as his team secured a convincing victory, with Arsenal moving up to third in the Premier League table.
With the Champions League Final just around the corner, Arteta's ability to read his team's strengths and weaknesses will be crucial in their remaining matches.
