A judge has declared a mistrial in the trial of Lindsay Clancy, the Massachusetts mother accused of killing her three young children. The decision came after the jury in Plymouth state court remained deadlocked following a week of deliberations.
Jurors spent more than 38 hours considering the charges against Clancy, 36. Judge William Sullivan declared the mistrial after the jury returned without a verdict for the third time.
Clancy, a former neonatal and delivery nurse, was accused of strangling her children, Cora, five, Dawson, three, and Callan, eight months, in their Duxbury home in January 2023. Her defense team argued she was suffering from psychosis at the time, while prosecutors contended the killings were premeditated.
Following the mistrial, prosecutors have the option to pursue a new trial. Clancy and her former husband, Patrick Clancy, also plan to bring a civil claim against her medical and mental healthcare providers, alleging medical malpractice.
