The murder trial of Lindsay Clancy, accused of strangling her three children in their Massachusetts home in January 2023, has ended in a mistrial. The decision was reached after a six-week trial concluded with a hung jury on Friday.
Clancy, who does not dispute killing her children – Cora, five, Dawson, three, and eight-month-old Callan – had her defence argue she was suffering from acute postpartum psychosis and therefore not legally responsible for their deaths. Eleven of the 12 jurors accepted this argument.
However, one male juror expressed "reasonable doubt" about Clancy's culpability but reportedly refused to apply that doubt as legally required, according to notes from the jury forewoman to the judge. Clancy, who attempted suicide after the killings, survived but was left paralysed below the waist.
