  • McConnell has been absent from the Senate since mid-June after a fall and a mild case of pneumonia.

Republican US Senator Mitch McConnell has been discharged from a rehabilitation centre, he announced on Thursday. The 84-year-old senator will continue his recovery at home following a fall that led to his hospitalisation.

McConnell stated he would maintain an intensive regimen of physical therapy from home during the state work period, on the advice of his doctors. He also said he would continue to engage with his staff and colleagues on Senate business.

His absence from Capitol Hill, which has lasted 53 days, began after he was admitted to hospital on 14 June. He later disclosed that a fall at his home and a "mild case of pneumonia" had prompted his hospitalisation and extended time away from the Senate.
