Sydney Towle, a social media influencer who chronicled her experience with a rare and aggressive form of cancer, has died at the age of 26. Her family announced her death on Thursday on her social media accounts, stating she passed peacefully from complications related to bile duct cancer that had spread.
Towle had over a million followers on TikTok and over 200,000 on Instagram. For nearly three years, she shared her daily life, including chemotherapy and her hopes and struggles while living with cancer. She had recently been moved to hospice care.
In May, Towle posted videos from the hospital, sharing that her cancer had spread to her peritoneum. She also stated that her oncologist had recommended end-of-life care, but she chose to switch to another specialist to continue fighting. Her family expressed pride in her fight and her efforts to raise awareness for rare cancers and promote self-advocacy.
