MMO to resume I-VMS enforcement as Nemo device installations progress

The Marine Management Organisation (MMO) is preparing to resume normal compliance and enforcement of I-VMS requirements for licenced under-12 metre English fishing vessels. This follows ongoing installations of Nemo devices across the inshore fleet.
By July 2026, more than 92% of eligible vessels had been registered for a Nemo device. This progress addresses the earlier cessation of data transmissions from SC2 devices to the UK Vessel Monitoring System (VMS) Hub. Almost half of these registered devices have now been installed, with the remaining installations anticipated to be completed in the coming weeks.
Vessels are required to carry an MMO-approved I-VMS device capable of transmitting data to the UK VMS Hub. The MMO has advised licence holders who have not yet purchased an approved device to do so promptly. Vessel owners awaiting installation should charge their Nemo device for 48 hours before their appointment.
