The Prime Minister hosted NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte at the Harwell Science and Innovation Campus this afternoon. The Prime Minister thanked the Secretary General for his visit, which highlighted defence businesses in the region.
The two leaders agreed on the UK's leadership in defence technology and discussed how the UK could further support innovation within NATO. This aims to ensure the Alliance has future forces across all domains. The Prime Minister also noted that the new national space strategy, released last week, would enhance the UK’s innovation and resilience in the space domain.
Regarding Ukraine, the Prime Minister reflected on his visit to Kyiv last month and stated his focus on diplomatic efforts to secure further air defence. The Secretary General thanked the Prime Minister for the UK’s £100m PURL funding contribution for defensive equipment, announced last week. Both leaders also emphasised the importance of long-term stability and security in the Middle East.
