A survey by Which? has found that 8 out of 10 of its members were satisfied with their experience of paid tech repairs for smartphones, laptops, or tablets within the last two years. The findings suggest that repairing devices can be a positive alternative to buying new ones.

The survey revealed that 62% of respondents had a smartphone repaired, 33% a laptop, and 11% a tablet. Common issues for phone repairs included dead batteries, cracked screens, and faulty charging ports. Most people, 73%, opted to book their repairs in person at a physical store, while 27% used an online service.

Customer service received high praise, with 88% rating it as good and 61% as excellent. Repair quality also scored well, with 84% rating the fix itself as good and 60% as excellent. The ease of repair was rated good by 92% of members, with 70% calling it excellent. Additionally, 86% rated the speed of repair as good, and 51% as excellent.

While tech repairs are not always cheap, 79% of members rated the value for money as good, with 43% rating it excellent. Independent shops were noted for often offering competitive prices, with one member saving hundreds on a tablet repair compared to a replacement.

What this means for you: If you are considering a tech repair, checking online reviews, asking about costs and turnaround times, and confirming guarantees can help ensure a positive experience.
