The mother of a boy who died four years ago has successfully fought to have his inquest reopened. Julian "Jools" Sweeney, from Gloucestershire, died in April 2022, with an initial 23-minute inquest recording a narrative conclusion and ruling out suicide.
His mother, Ellen Roome, believes her son's death was caused by an online challenge gone wrong. The High Court quashed the senior coroner's conclusion just two weeks ago, following a legal challenge from Ms Roome.
Ms Roome has become a leading figure in the campaign to ban social media use for children in Britain since Jools' death. She has also campaigned for a legal amendment that would require social media companies to provide parents with access to their child's data in the event of their death.
Ms Roome told former This Morning presenter Holly Willoughby that she watches old videos of Jools, including one where he told her to "stay strong and be brave", as motivation for her campaign work. Her interview with Ms Willoughby will be available on YouTube and other digital streaming platforms on 4 August.
