Real Madrid manager José Mourinho voiced strong objections to refereeing decisions after his side's 2-1 loss to Atlético Madrid in Sunday's derby. The match, played at the Metropolitano stadium, saw Atlético secure victory in front of 70,514 spectators.
During the post-match press conference, Mourinho presented a piece of paper with two screen grabs from the first half. He argued that tackles on Jude Bellingham and Fede Valverde should have resulted in red cards for Atlético players Cuti Romero and Kang-in Lee, respectively. Neither incident led to a sending off.
Early in the second half, Real Madrid's Dean Huijsen was sent off for dragging down Giuliano Simeone, which also led to a penalty that gave Atlético the lead. Mourinho claimed the referee couldn't handle the pressure and criticised decisions made by the VAR official.
This defeat leaves Real Madrid six points behind the league leaders after seven weeks of the season.
