World Cup-winning coach Luis de la Fuente has put pen to paper on a six-year contract extension, securing his position as Spain's head coach until the conclusion of Euro 2032. This landmark agreement represents the longest tenure ever granted to a Spain head coach.
The Spanish FA (Rfef) formally approved the deal at an Executive Committee meeting in Madrid on Monday. The renewal had been initially agreed during the World Cup, where Spain triumphed over Argentina in the final in July.
De la Fuente, who also guided Spain to silverware at Euro 2024, stated in a press conference, "We are not content with what we have achieved so far. The best is yet to come." The deal reportedly includes a significant pay rise following his back-to-back major titles.
Under De la Fuente's leadership, Spain has achieved an impressive record of 38 wins, 10 draws, and two defeats across 50 matches. The team is currently enjoying its longest unbeaten run in international football history, stretching to 38 matches.
