Everton manager David Moyes is demanding more from his squad, despite their strong start to the Premier League season. The Toffees are currently fifth in the table and remain unbeaten after five games, securing two wins and three draws.
Moyes is keen to avoid any talk of European qualification, a topic he embraced last season before the team's form faltered. After a 1-0 home victory against Ipswich Town, which brought their points tally to nine, Moyes stated, "We are not using those words this year."
The team's resilience has been evident, with five clean sheets in seven matches across all competitions. Their latest win against Ipswich was secured by an 11th-minute goal from Thierno Barry, his fifth of the season. This defensive strength has been crucial, especially as Barry is the club's only recognised striker following Beto's move to Fiorentina and Iliman Ndiaye's transfer to Manchester City.
Despite the positive start, Moyes is pushing for more attacking prowess. He expressed disappointment that his side, one of only five still unbeaten in the Premier League, isn't scoring more goals, noting 21 shots against Ipswich but only two on target. Goalkeeper Jordan Pickford highlighted the team's momentum and focus ahead of the international break, with their next league match against Hull City on 11 October.
