Marks & Spencer made its London Fashion Week debut with a catwalk show at the Design Museum, showcasing a collection that prioritises affordability and accessibility. The event, attended by 310 guests including celebrities such as Joan Collins, Kemi Badenoch, Ian Wright, and Jamie Carragher, presented a range of clothing with a focus on contemporary, comfortable style.

The collection, which went on sale as the show began today, features numerous items priced under £50. The most expensive piece, a leather coat, is set to retail for £450. Maddy Evans, M&S womenswear director, described the style message as "fashion with a small f, not a capital F," aiming to make catwalk trends accessible to a wider audience.

The show also celebrated M&S's 100 years of selling fashion, incorporating nods to its archives with reworked twinsets and lace two-piece sets. Models of diverse ages and body sizes were chosen to represent the brand's customer base. M&S is now ranked second in style perception, behind Zara, with Evans stating the aim is to be "fashion for everybody."

Why this matters: This event marks a significant move for London Fashion Week, aiming to increase its relevance to everyday consumers amidst rising designer prices.
