A motorcyclist discovered fatally injured head teacher Michael Mullins, 56, on a grass verge on Wet Gate Lane in Lymm, Cheshire, after following a trail of blood for more than a mile. Andrew Beasant-Roberts found a damaged bicycle shortly after 18:07 BST on 20 April, prompting him to follow a "suspicious" fluid trail on the road.

Simon Richardson, 35, is currently on trial at Manchester Minshull Street Crown Court, accused of murdering Mullins. The prosecution alleges Richardson dragged Mullins along the road after he became trapped under his car following a collision.

The court heard that Mullins was cycling home from Stretford Grammar School when he was struck by a black Volvo XC90. Witnesses described the Volvo as driving "extremely fast" and "erratically" before the impact. Richardson, of no fixed address, denies both murder and manslaughter.

Other witnesses, including Katie Woodward and Lois Wedgewood, also arrived at the scene, having noticed a black car speeding with what appeared to be a "body" wedged under its front wheels. The jury was told Richardson allegedly stopped briefly on Wet Gate Lane and attempted to pull Mullins free before accelerating away with him still beneath the wheels.
