Chelsea FC winger Mykhailo Mudryk has been cleared for an immediate return to action following a decision by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (Cas). Cas partially upheld an appeal against his four-year ban for doping, allowing the 25-year-old to resume his career.
Mudryk had been provisionally suspended by the Football Association after an adverse finding for the banned substance meldonium in November 2024. He has not played a competitive match since then.
Cas ruled that Mudryk can return "with immediate effect" after he accepted breaking anti-doping rules and reached an agreement on a suspension equivalent to time served. Cas noted that the test showed "a low concentration" of the prohibited substance and that changes have since been made to the World Anti-Doping Agency's technical document regarding meldonium.
Chelsea released a statement expressing pleasure that the matter has concluded, allowing Mudryk to return. The club highlighted that advances in scientific reporting standards mean his sample, if analysed today, would not have been reported as a positive test.
Mudryk is now expected to rejoin the Chelsea squad as they prepare for the new Premier League season. Xabi Alonso’s side is scheduled to play Tottenham in a friendly on Saturday.
