Najidi Storm, a horse with high expectations due to his lineage, became the shortest-priced loser in British racing history on Tuesday. The favourite, priced at 1-33, finished second in the Cleansing Service Group Novice Stakes at Goodwood.
The race was won by Wreck It Ronnie, who had odds of 10-1. Wreck It Ronnie had previously been beaten by a combined 22 and a half lengths in his two prior outings. The third runner, Dream Of Albion, finished 76 lengths behind.
The previous record for the shortest-priced loser was jointly held by Doom (2023) and Royal Forest (1948), both beaten at 1-25. Despite the favourite's defeat, bookmakers claimed they did not profit from the outcome. Brian O’Keeffe of BOYLE Sports stated that Wreck It Ronnie was their biggest liability in the race.
