The government has announced further details regarding the introduction of its "Register your rental property" service. The national landlord registration will launch in the West Midlands on 15 December 2026, marking the start of a region-by-region rollout across England.
Landlords will be required to pay £65 per property each year. Once registration becomes mandatory in a specific area, landlords will have a three-month period to comply. The rollout is scheduled to continue until November 2027, by which time all landlords actively letting property will need to have registered.
The legal responsibility for registration remains with the landlord, although there will be an option for agents or property managers to provide certain information on their behalf. Further guidance on this is expected before the service launches.
