Neko Health, a body scan startup co-founded by Spotify's David Ek and Hjalmar Nilsonne, has launched in New York. The company, which originated in Sweden, has reportedly raised nearly $1 billion in total funding and states it has a global waitlist exceeding 300,000 people.
The service offers a one-hour body scan for $500, which is not covered by insurance but may qualify as an acceptable expense for those with Health Savings Accounts. The scan uses advanced technology, including computer vision, to screen for issues in blood, skin, and metabolism.
Farooq Abbasi of Preface Ventures, an investor in Neko Health, expressed hopes that the company could be the future of preventative medicine. He noted that the product has evolved, with a recent scan including 55 biomarkers compared to 15 in an earlier version.
Neko Health is reportedly considering further expansion across the U.S., though it faces challenges related to scaling and regulatory approval.
