The Netherlands comfortably beat a youthful Scotland side by 58 runs in the first one-day international at Titwood, taking an early lead in the three-match ODI series. Opener Phebe Molkenboer was the star for the Dutch, hitting a superb 106, her first ODI hundred, as the Netherlands posted 270-4 in their 50 overs. Babette de Leede also contributed significantly with 69 runs.

Scotland, missing key players, handed debuts to Charlotte Nevard and Rebecca McCrossan. Despite a valiant 79 from Hampshire wicketkeeper Pippa Sproul, Scotland fell short, being dismissed for 212 in 48.5 overs. Siegers was the pick of the Dutch bowlers, taking 3-42.

The series was arranged at short notice as the Netherlands aim to regain their ODI ranking and prevent a substantial funding cut next year. The next two fixtures are scheduled for Sunday and Tuesday, both to be held at Stirling County Cricket Club.

Why this matters: The series is crucial for the Netherlands as they aim to improve their ODI ranking and avoid a significant funding reduction next year.
