A new £21 million health hub, Wellbeing Square, has officially opened in Newhaven, East Sussex. The facility, which opened on Thursday, 3 September 2026, combines primary care, community wellbeing, and leisure services in one location.
Led by Lewes District Council, the project transformed previously empty and under-used buildings. The completed hub features two GP practices, a new pharmacy, an extended Seahaven Swim & Fitness Centre, and a creative/co-working space.
The two GP surgeries within the hub are anticipated to serve more than 15,000 local residents, offering over 5,500 appointments each month. Dr Paul Moore, a GP at Quayside Medical Practice, stated that the new hub aims to encourage people to be as healthy as possible and reinforce that their GP is available for them.
Allison Cannon, chief nursing officer for NHS Sussex and Surrey, commented that the hub will make it easier for people to access support closer to home and at convenient times. She described it as the kind of neighbourhood approach desired across Surrey and Sussex, where health services, local partners, and communities collaborate to promote well-being and address health inequalities.
