New Attorney General and Solicitor General sworn in at Royal Courts of Justice

Ellie Reeves KC MP and Andy Slaughter MP were sworn in as Law Officers today at the Royal Courts of Justice. Their swearing-in follows their appointments in July earlier this year.

Ellie Reeves KC MP, the new Attorney General, stated it is an honour to be sworn in and highlighted that tackling violence against women and girls remains her top priority. She also expressed her commitment to ensuring the legal profession is open to everyone.

Andy Slaughter MP, the new Solicitor General, described his role as a privilege, bridging law and government to ensure good governance. He looks forward to working with the Attorney General to address challenges within the justice system and strengthen public confidence.

The Attorney General serves as the Government’s chief legal advisor and attends Cabinet. Both the Attorney General and Solicitor General superintend Law Officers’ Departments, which include the Crown Prosecution Service and Serious Fraud Office.
