The United Kingdom has proposed an inflation-adjusted budget for the Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) for 2027. This approach aims to protect the organisation's outward-facing and operational work, according to a statement by Deputy Ambassador James Ford on 1 October 2026.
The UK believes that a budget which accounts for the effect of inflation on the figures agreed for 2026 would provide stability. This would allow the OSCE to embed savings made in 2026 while preserving its ability to deliver its mandate, particularly for autonomous institutions, field operations, and conflict-prevention capabilities.
The statement also highlighted the importance of a stable Secretariat structure during a period of consolidation. The UK argued that this would enable the OSCE to focus its limited resources on implementation rather than further internal reorganisation. The UK will engage constructively in upcoming budget presentations and discussions.
