A new direct rail service will connect Birmingham with Manchester Airport, according to an announcement from London Northwestern Railway (LNR). The hourly service will link the West Midlands to the country's third-largest aviation hub.
The route will be introduced in two phases. The initial phase, connecting Birmingham and Crewe, is set to begin on 13 December. This stretch will include stops at stations such as Wolverhampton and Stafford.
The second phase, extending the service to Manchester Airport, is scheduled to start in May 2027. This extension will add stops at Sandbach, Holmes Chapel, Wilmslow, and Styal before reaching the airport.
Currently, train passengers travelling from Birmingham New Street to Manchester Airport typically need to change trains at either Crewe or Manchester Piccadilly.
