Brando Benetton's debut film, 'The Girl in the River', has been described as a "ropey and implausible manhunt thriller" in a recent review. The film features Ralph Macchio and Tiffany Haddish, with Devon Sawa as veteran detective Alan Kramer and Maggie Grace as rookie forensic psychologist Amelia Pembrock.

The plot centres on the investigation into the murder of a 14-year-old, whose body was found in the Mississippi River. Detectives are alerted to a gun nearby, leading a colleague to observe, "This isn’t a clean-up. It’s a message."

Kramer and Pembrock reportedly race to locate the victim's twin, who is presumed to be with the killer. Their investigation focuses on local butcher Boris, who is noted to have a sex-pest rap sheet.
