The new Netflix adaptation of the classic children's series, "Little House on the Prairie," was filmed entirely in Manitoba, Canada. Production for the series, which reimagines Laura Ingalls Wilder's novels, occurred between June and October, primarily in and around Winnipeg.
Showrunner and executive producer Rebecca Sonnenshine stated that Winnipeg was chosen due to its vast landscapes and robust film infrastructure, including crews, equipment rentals, and soundstages. The series aimed for historical accuracy, with the writing team collaborating with Osage cultural consultant Julie O’Keefe to ensure an accurate portrayal of the Osage Nation.
The Ingalls' cabin, the town, and the Mitchell House were constructed on leased private property outside Winnipeg in Cooks Creek. The art department built the cabin using period-appropriate technology, without nails or hinges.
