The Royal Daffodil, a new £26m vessel, was launched in Liverpool on Tuesday, 22 September. This marks the first time a new Mersey ferry has joined the fleet in 60 years.
The ship was constructed at Wirral’s Cammell Laird shipyard, now known as Balaena Birkenhead. Its exterior features Mersey Ferries’ traditional red, white, and black colours.
Inside, the Royal Daffodil includes a contemporary lounge, modern bars, open-plan decks with adjustable panoramic windows, and storytelling boards. Facilities also provide USB charging points, baby-changing amenities, an onboard cafe, and dedicated cycle parking.
The new ferry is anticipated to start carrying passengers in early autumn, though a confirmed start date has not yet been announced. Winners of a ballot will participate in a special inaugural public cruise on Saturday.
