A new direct flight route to Yerevan, Armenia, from London launched on June 12 with Wizz Air. This new route aims to help travellers explore destinations beyond the more common choices, according to Wizz Air's MD, Yvonne Moynihan.

Yerevan, the capital of Armenia, is an ancient city founded in 782BC. It is known for its culture, history, and character, often referred to as the 'Pink City' due to its buildings constructed from rose-coloured tuff, a volcanic stone.

Key attractions in Yerevan include Republic Square, designed by Alexander Tamanian, which hosts the Dancing Fountains show during summer evenings. The Cascade Complex, a tiered structure with 572 steps, offers views towards Mount Ararat. The Tsitsernakaberd Armenian Genocide Memorial complex provides insight into the country's history.

Armenian cuisine features dishes such as lavash, a Unesco-recognised flatbread, fire-grilled meats (khorovats), and various salads. Restaurants like Sherep and Zepyur offer local specialities.

What this means for you: If you are considering travel to Armenia, a new direct flight route from London to Yerevan is now available with Wizz Air.
