Newcastle United are reportedly nearing a deal to sign Nico Gonzalez from Manchester City. The move would see the Spanish midfielder join the North East club as they look to bolster their midfield options.
While a fee has not yet been agreed between the clubs, there is a growing expectation that Gonzalez will make the switch. He was an unused substitute in City's recent 2-1 victory over Bournemouth, with centre-back Marc Guehi playing in midfield instead.
Gonzalez joined Manchester City from Porto in January 2025 for £49m, making 59 appearances and scoring four goals. His potential departure would add to City's midfield exodus this summer, which has already seen Bernardo Silva, Tijjani Reijnders, and Rodri leave the Etihad Stadium.
Newcastle's pursuit of Gonzalez comes after the £75m transfer of Bruno Guimaraes to Arsenal and Sandro Tonali's £100m move to Tottenham. The club had also considered Joao Palhinha and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg in their search for an experienced midfielder, alongside signing younger talents Sean Steur and Aladji Bamba.
