Australian batter Nic Maddinson has been recalled to the Test squad, marking his first appearance since recovering from cancer. He has joined the touring squad for the first Test against South Africa, following an injury to Josh Inglis.
Maddinson, 34, was diagnosed with testicular cancer in April 2025, which had spread to his lung and lymph nodes. He completed chemotherapy in July 2025 and was given the all-clear eight weeks after his final treatment, resuming full cricket training in September 2025.
After missing the early part of the 2025/26 season, Maddinson made five appearances in the Big Bash League for the Sydney Thunder. He recently scored 126 in Australia's domestic one-day competition and has been named New South Wales captain for the 2026/27 Sheffield Shield season. He will open with Travis Head in the first game of the three-match series in Durban, making his return to the Australia Test team after nine years.
