England defender Nico O'Reilly has returned to Manchester City after sustaining an injury during international duty, with the Football Association confirming no replacements will be called up.

  • Nico O'Reilly has departed the England squad and returned to Manchester City for further assessment after an injury in training.
  • The Football Association has confirmed that no replacements will be added to the squad for the upcoming Nations League fixtures against Croatia and Czechia.
  • Saturday's match against Croatia will be played behind closed doors due to previous crowd trouble involving Croatian fans.

England defender Nico O’Reilly has left the national squad and returned to Manchester City for further assessment following an injury picked up during international duty. The full-back had completed 90 minutes in England’s 3-2 Nations League defeat to Spain, where he made an error leading to Spain's second goal.

O'Reilly subsequently missed England's 2-0 midweek victory over Czechia after suffering an injury in training. The Football Association has confirmed that no replacements will be added to the squad for the upcoming UEFA Nations League fixtures against Croatia on Saturday and Czechia next Tuesday.

This development offers Newcastle defender Lewis Hall another opportunity at left-back. Hall played the full 90 minutes in Prague on Tuesday and is expected to feature again in Saturday’s fixture against Croatia, which will be played behind closed doors in Rijeka. This sanction stems from crowd trouble involving Croatian fans last year during their Nations League quarter-final against France.
