Veteran actor Nicolas Cage is making an unexpected foray into the world of video games, confirmed to join Call Of Duty: Black Ops 7 and Warzone as a playable character. This new addition is a highlight of the game's upcoming 'Summer of Action' season, which is scheduled to go live on Thursday, June 25, as part of the broader Season 4: Reloaded update.
The announcement signals a significant content injection for fans of the popular first-person shooter franchise. Beyond the celebrity cameo, the Season 4: Reloaded update will introduce a range of new features. Players can look forward to competing on fresh maps and engaging in new game modes. Notably, the classic Black Ops mode, a fan favourite, will be permanently integrated into the game, offering a nostalgic experience for long-time players. Further updates are also planned for Zombies, Endgame, and Warzone modes, encompassing new weapons, additional maps, and a series of fresh challenges.
A press release detailed Cage's involvement, stating: "Nicolas Cage leads the action this summer in a brand-new event pass, joined by the summer of action daily login event, new multiplayer and resurgence ranked series events, and the Kowakujō event, all bringing fresh rewards including loadout items, weapon camos, double XP Tokens, and more." This indicates that Cage's character will be central to a new in-game event, offering players various incentives for participation.
However, this move towards celebrity integrations appears to be a point of divergence within the Call Of Duty franchise itself. Developers of the forthcoming Modern Warfare 4, which is slated for an October launch, have explicitly stated that celebrity cameos, including Nicolas Cage, will not feature in their title. Infinity Ward, the studio behind Modern Warfare 4, released a statement affirming their commitment to narrative authenticity. They emphasised that every aspect of Modern Warfare 4 is "anchored" in its storyline, with all features and decisions needing to "feel authentic to what Modern Warfare is, and that includes cosmetics and collabs."
The official Call Of Duty X account further reinforced this stance for Modern Warfare 4, addressing player feedback directly: "We got the feedback. No BS. This is all about staying true to Modern Warfare. No clowny skins for launch and seasons beyond. No Lady Gaga. No Omni-Man. No Teletubbies. No SpongeBob. Keep the receipts." This suggests a clear intention to maintain a distinct, grounded aesthetic for the Modern Warfare sub-series, contrasting with the more expansive approach seen in Black Ops 7.
