A Nigerian social media influencer has been arrested in connection with a global drug trafficking network after authorities seized cocaine worth nearly $28 million (£21 million) destined for the UK.
Afolabi Kazeem Micheal, 49, known as "KC Luxury" to his 700,000 Instagram followers, was detained at Lagos's Murtala Mohammed International Airport last week as he prepared to board a flight to Paris, according to Nigeria's National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).
Officials allege Mr Micheal was the Nigerian "arrowhead" of a cartel trafficking cocaine from South America through Nigeria to Europe and Asia. He has not commented on the allegations or been charged in court.
The NDLEA stated that 184.5kg of cocaine was discovered concealed in brown boxes at a courier facility in Lagos on Monday 3 August. The agency said this was being exported by an international trafficking network that has allegedly used Nigeria as a transit hub for years.
A second suspect, Lawal Mujab Kehinde, is alleged to have been a staff member of a logistics company involved in transporting the cocaine. Mr Kehinde has not commented on the allegations or been charged. The NDLEA also reported that other suspected members of the network have been arrested in the UK by counterpart law enforcement agencies overseas.
