Nigeria's Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has dismissed more than 40 employees due to alleged corruption and financial misconduct over the past three years. This disclosure was made by EFCC chairman Ola Olukoyede at an event in Abuja assessing the agency's achievements.
Mr Olukoyede stated that over five of the dismissed officials are already facing prosecution, with case files being prepared for others. He also mentioned reforms within the agency, including renaming the Department of Internal Affairs to the Department of Ethics and Integrity, and introducing a policy on gifts and hospitality.
Since taking office in October 2023, Mr Olukoyede said the EFCC has recovered 1.23 trillion naira ($925m, £683m) and achieved a conviction rate exceeding 75%. Between October 2023 and July 2026, the commission received 49,673 petitions, investigated 39,615 cases, filed 14,476 cases in court, and secured 10,872 convictions.
