No further action will be taken against Sarah Helm, the wife of the prime minister’s national security adviser, Jonathan Powell, after she was accused of supporting the banned protest group Palestine Action.
Helm, a journalist and author, posted on X on Thursday: “God help us authors who support Palestine and Palestine Action.” The Metropolitan Police stated on Saturday that the post was assessed by specialist officers and "did not meet the criminal threshold."
The ban on Palestine Action, which began in July 2025, made membership or support of the direct action group a criminal offence. Downing Street has distanced itself from Helm’s remarks, with a government spokesperson saying her views are "held by an individual who does not represent the government in any capacity."
