Jason O'Connell, a Reform politician, has stated he is using smart glasses equipped with an autocue feature to assist him in delivering speeches within the Welsh Parliament. Mr O'Connell, the Senedd member for Pontypridd Cynon Merthyr, said the technology has significantly boosted his confidence when speaking in the Senedd.
The smart glasses display a digital script on their lenses, which scrolls as Mr O'Connell speaks and can also be controlled via a ring on his finger. He explained that he sought ways to improve his oratory skills since his election in May, aiming to avoid looking down at notes.
However, the use of the glasses has sparked debate. Jane Dodds, the Welsh Liberal Democrat leader, has called for a ban on smart glasses in the Senedd until rules and regulations are established. A spokesperson for the Senedd's presiding officer confirmed that a review into the use of this technology on the Senedd estate is under way, with conclusions expected shortly.
