British number two Cameron Norrie has advanced to the Canadian Open last 32, overcoming Ignacio Buse in a straight-set victory. Norrie, ranked four places above the Peruvian world number 33, secured the win with a 6-3 6-3 scoreline in a match lasting one hour and 29 minutes.
This triumph builds on Norrie's recent form, which saw him reach the semi-finals of the Los Cabos Open last week, ending a six-match losing streak. He also defeated Camilo Ugo Carabelli in his opening match in Montreal.
Norrie's path to victory included breaking Buse at the first opportunity to claim the first set. Although Buse broke back to level the second set at 2-2, Norrie immediately responded with another break and saved three break points in the subsequent service game. Buse, who required a medical timeout, was unable to recover, and Norrie sealed the match on his second match point.
In the last 32, Norrie is set to face Australian world number seven Alex de Minaur. De Minaur married British number two Katie Boulter in July and is preparing to play doubles with her at the US Open.
