Bus strikes concerning hot weather working conditions have resumed in north London and Essex. More than 1,500 bus drivers employed by Arriva North London began industrial action on Tuesday, which is set to continue until 4:30am on Friday.
This industrial action, involving Unite members, was previously paused between 19 and 21 August for negotiations. However, a new offer was rejected by workers, who stated it "does not go far enough to solve the problems of hot weather working."
Drivers from Barking, Edmonton, Enfield, Grays, Palmers Green, Stamford Hill, Tottenham, and Wood Green bus garages are involved in the dispute. Unite is advocating for the installation of effective air conditioning on all buses, arguing that current air cooling systems expose drivers to dangerous temperatures, potentially exceeding 40 degrees in cabs.
