Major rail lines across the North West will face significant disruptions over the late May bank holiday weekend as Network Rail carries out essential engineering work on key routes.
Engineers will close lines between Liverpool Lime Street and Manchester Victoria, as well as between Manchester Victoria and Styal, from Friday 26th May to Monday 29th May. Several railway stations will be shut during the work.
The timing will hit thousands of families planning bank holiday getaways, with the weekend traditionally one of the busiest for rail travel. Network Rail said the maintenance work is essential to ensure safe and reliable services.
Motorists face additional challenges, with the Highways Agency warning of potential congestion on major roads including the M62 and M56. Road closures are also expected during what is anticipated to be a particularly busy bank holiday weekend.
Network Rail has apologised for the disruption and urged passengers to check the latest information before travelling. Journey planning is available through the National Rail Enquiries website or mobile app.
The engineering work aims to prevent future disruptions and improve overall service reliability for passengers across the North West rail network.
