Landowners in Northamptonshire have expressed concerns regarding a leaking water pipe that is causing flooding, despite the UK being in a period of drought with hosepipe bans in many areas.
Will Fenn, a farmer in Kings Cliffe, Northamptonshire, highlighted the issue after a neighbouring farmer's combine harvester began to sink in a saturated field. Peter Howard, the neighbouring farmer, reported the water leak to Anglian Water on 18 July.
Howard stated that although the company sent someone a few hours after the report, no action has been taken to resolve the issue, with the field continuing to flood. He has been given a deadline of 31 August for the repair work to be completed.
An Anglian Water spokesperson said that hot weather can cause ground movement, leading to an increase in burst water mains or leaks. The company stated its teams are working to prioritise repairs that significantly impact customers' water supplies and those with the highest water loss.
