All households in Northern Ireland are set to receive a one-off £63 reduction in their electricity bills, starting from next month. This initiative, funded by the UK government, will be applied automatically without the need for an application.
Customers who pay by bank will see their bills automatically reduced. For pay-as-you-go customers, a £63 credit will be applied when they top up their meter. To receive the full discount in a single transaction, pay-as-you-go users should not purchase more than £112 of credit, as meters have a maximum payment limit of £175.
Economy Minister Dr Caoimhe Archibald stated the money aims to "provide some help for families as winter kicks in and energy bills rise." This scheme mirrors two policies implemented in Great Britain, which include a temporary VAT cut and the removal of certain consumer levies.
