Sandie Peggie, a nurse with over 30 years' experience at NHS Fife, has initiated new tribunal proceedings against her trade union, the Royal College of Nursing (RCN). She claims the RCN did not adequately support her in her original employment dispute.
Peggie previously secured a partial victory against NHS Fife in December 2025, when a tribunal judge upheld her harassment claim. However, claims of discrimination, indirect discrimination, and victimisation were dismissed.
Giving evidence on the first day of the current tribunal, Peggie stated she felt “discriminated against” by her union. She told the tribunal she had “lost faith” in the RCN by February 2024, alleging her representative was “non-committal” and did not mention legal support in their initial conversation in January 2024. Peggie also claims the union refused a request for legal support in January 2025.
The nurse argues that the RCN discriminated against her due to her “gender-critical and sex realist” beliefs. The RCN denies all allegations. The tribunal, taking place in Dundee, is anticipated to continue for seven days. Peggie has also appealed the decision from her original tribunal proceedings, with that case expected to be heard in the first half of next year.
