Celtic kicked off their Scottish Premiership title defence with a 1-0 home victory against Dundee, thanks to a close-range header from Benjamin Nygren in the 52nd minute. The Sweden midfielder, who netted 21 goals last season, quickly found his scoring touch.

Before the game, Celtic fans cheered as captain Callum McGregor unfurled a flag, commemorating the club's 14th title win in 15 seasons. The first half saw Martin O’Neill’s side struggle to find their rhythm, with Dundee posing problems.

New recruits Camilo Durán, a Colombian striker reportedly signed for £5.5m, and Denmark forward Kasper Høgh, who cost a club-record £11m plus add-ons, made their debuts for Celtic. Alistair Johnston and Arne Engels, both subject to transfer interest, also started for the champions.

Dundee's debutant keeper Owen Goodman made a fine save from Kieran Tierney, and later pulled off a terrific stop from Yang Hyun-jun. Despite late chances for Celtic, including Høgh missing from six yards and McGregor hitting the upright, Nygren's goal proved enough to secure the three points in Glasgow.
