Norway captain Martin Odegaard was left incensed after a late tackle to his ankle from Portugal's Bernardo Silva during stoppage time of Sunday's Nations League fixture. The challenge, which occurred in Portugal's 2-1 victory in Oslo, resulted in a yellow card for Silva.
Odegaard was reportedly captured on camera repeatedly shouting an expletive in English towards his long-term opponent. Limping towards the team bus more than an hour after the final whistle, Odegaard told Norwegian broadcaster TV2, "This has no place on a football pitch."
Silva, who departed Manchester City for Real Madrid in the summer, initially responded "What tackle?" when asked by Norwegian journalists about the clash, according to a clip shared by Nettavisen. The 32-year-old playmaker then stated, "It's football, my friend."
The incident took place after Odegaard played a deep left-footed pass from within Norway's half, with Silva making a challenge from behind. Silva reportedly raised his right foot too late to block the pass before aiming a kick at the rear of Odegaard's trailing left foot.
