Former tennis star John McEnroe has stated that players may need to boycott Grand Slam tournaments to achieve a greater share of the revenue. Speaking at the Laver Cup in London, McEnroe argued that players should be considered partners in the major events.
Players have reportedly been targeting a 22% share of Grand Slam tournament revenue by 2030. This year, stars including Jannik Sinner and Aryna Sabalenka reportedly limited their media appearances at the French Open and Wimbledon as a form of protest.
McEnroe also suggested that the fifth set in major matches should be replaced by a match tie-break. He highlighted concerns about the length of contests and late-night scheduling, citing a recent US Open match that finished at 3:33 am.
