Old Firm clashes between Celtic and Rangers in the Scottish Premiership and Scottish League Cup will proceed without away fans for the entire 2026/27 season. This "temporary arrangement" was announced by the Scottish Professional Football League (SPFL) following discussions with both clubs.
The decision comes after an independent review into a Scottish Cup quarter-final at Ibrox last season. The review found that "crushing" and "life-threatening violence" were narrowly avoided during the match, which saw Rangers fans storm the pitch after Celtic supporters spilled onto the field.
Previously, a 5 per cent away allocation had been agreed for Premiership and League Cup fixtures. However, the SPFL stated that ticketing arrangements were reconsidered after the independent review's findings. Rangers are set to host Celtic in the Scottish League Cup quarter-finals next weekend, followed by the first Premiership Old Firm match at Celtic Park on Sunday, 20 September.
The SPFL confirmed that Celtic did not accept a proposal from Rangers to reduce the away allocation for the upcoming League Cup quarter-final, leading to the intervention. The ban is intended to allow all parties to properly consider the review's recommendations and plan future fixtures thoroughly, with safety and security as the priority. The situation will remain under review should circumstances change during the season.
