One Nation Unveils Eight Candidates for Victorian Upper House Election

One Nation has announced eight candidates to lead its upper house tickets in the November Victorian state election, including a former Liberal candidate and an animator.

  • One Nation leader Pauline Hanson announced eight candidates for the Victorian upper house election.
  • The candidates include a former Liberal party candidate, an animator, and a local councillor.
  • The party has seen recent polling figures suggesting between 19-27% of Victorians are considering voting for One Nation.

One Nation leader Pauline Hanson held a press conference on Monday to announce eight candidates who will lead the party's upper house tickets in the November Victorian state election.

Among the candidates are Colleen Harkin, a former Liberal party candidate, Mark Nicholson, co-founder of Stepmates Studios which creates Hanson’s anti-woke film, and local councillor Chris Burson, who states he worked on former premier Daniel Andrews’ personal protection team.

Warren Pickering, One Nation’s Victorian president, will lead the party’s campaign and run for the eastern Victoria region. Other candidates include Fiona Lopez, Aaron Sandford, and Natalie Adams, with current MP Rikkie-Lee Tyrrell seeking re-election in Northern Victoria.

Recent polling figures indicate that between 19-27% of Victorians are considering a vote for One Nation. This announcement follows new legislation introduced last week by Victorian premier Ben Carroll to scrap group voting tickets.

Why this matters: The announcement of candidates and the party's recent polling surge come as new legislation to scrap group voting tickets could impact the likelihood of these candidates winning seats.
