A recent study suggests that one-third of British families believe parents should always cover the cost of family holidays. This sentiment is particularly strong among Generation Z, who reportedly expect parents to contribute 52% of the funds for such trips.
The trend of multi-generational holidays is also experiencing a boom, with more than double the number of British people participating compared to four years ago. However, some parents are finding the financial burden challenging. One mother of four, Lucy Cavendish, noted that a week-long holiday for six people to destinations like Thailand or Kenya could cost around £20,000.
Cavendish, who is 60 this year, considered shelving plans for a special family birthday trip due to the anticipated cost. She highlighted that while her adult children work, their salaries may not keep pace with the cost of living, leading to parents often covering shortfalls in rent or other expenses.
