OpenAI has introduced updated versions of its GPT-6 Sol and Luna models, which the company states offer improved efficiency and affordability. These new models are available at half the cost of the previous 5.6 series of Sol and Luna, a price reduction attributed to advancements in caching and inference.
The company claims that the new models are more accurate, with GPT-6 Sol reportedly making approximately half as many mistakes as its predecessor on internal factuality evaluations. OpenAI also notes a lower error rate for coding tasks. Sol is designed for complex tasks like coding, while Luna is intended for high-volume clerical work such as summarizing documents or extracting information.
The new versions of Sol and Luna are now accessible in ChatGPT Work and Codex for most paid accounts, and via the ChatGPT API. Luna will also be available in the desktop app and for Free and Go users. OpenAI anticipates a gradual rollout of these models to the ChatGPT app and website throughout the day.
