Eighty-four individuals from Wales have been recognised in His Majesty The King's Birthday Honours List for 2026, celebrating their exceptional contributions to their local communities and the wider country. These honourees are part of a national list of 1,182 recipients, with a particular emphasis this year on acknowledging those who drive positive change at a community level.
Among those from Wales receiving honours are Julia Jones from Dyfed, who was awarded a British Empire Medal (BEM) for her services to music, notably for establishing the Llandeilo Fawr Festival of Music. Karl Lester from Conwy received an MBE for his voluntary services to Mountain Rescue, having participated in over 555 rescue operations since 2008. Other notable Welsh recipients include Christina Roy from South Glamorgan, who received a BEM for her community work in Cardiff, especially through the Parent Learning Group at Cathays High School, which has supported over 50 women into employment. David Cottle from Swansea was awarded a BEM for his dedication to jazz music, having organised the Swansea Jazz Club's weekly programme since the 1990s.
The list also includes Alys Cole-King from Conwy, who received an MBE for her pioneering work in suicide prevention, and Gary Davies from Mid Glamorgan, awarded an MBE for nearly five decades of public service and community wellbeing in the Ogmore and Rhondda areas, starting his career with South Wales Constabulary in 1975.
Prime Minister Keir Starmer commented on the national list, stating that it offers an opportunity to acknowledge individuals across the UK who are 'quietly changing lives and strengthening their communities'. He highlighted that their dedication exemplifies how lasting change is built through compassion, resilience, and a commitment to others. Secretary of State for Wales Jo Stevens also extended her congratulations, commending the contributions of these 'incredible people' to various fields including sport, charity, and the arts, often through voluntary efforts.
